August 4, 2021

This talk explores the life and artwork of Rebecca Salsbury James, presented by Christian Waguespack, the Curator of 20th Century Art at the New Mexico Museum of Art. James, married to photographer Paul Strand in the 1920s, was a close friend of Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. The summer of 1929 James traveled with O’Keeffe to New Mexico and became a frequent visitor to Taos, making it her permanent home in the 1930s. She was primarily a self-taught artist, known for her reverse glass paintings. James also created colcha embroidery.

This program was presented in partnership with the New Mexico Museum of Art.
