In this intermediate painter level course participants will explore color and tonal compositions inspired by nature as seen in our environment, personal home collections, and Georgia O’Keeffe’s own practice of collecting and painting found objects. We will walk you through highlighting, shading, and detailing still lifes and participants will be given the opportunity to an open studio working experience to either begin a still life of personal choice or to further develop the example provided from the instructor demonstration.

Supplies you will need:

  • watercolor paints
  • round paintbrush
  • watercolor or drawing paper

The painting depicts a close-up view of a single black iris, with its intricate petals and stamen prominently displayed. The dark background contrasts with the bright white of the flower, creating a striking and dramatic effect. O'Keeffe's use of color and form creates a sense of abstraction, while the realism of the flower maintains a strong sense of naturalism.
