On View at the Research Center: O’Keeffe and Gardening

A small selection of garden related sketches, photographs, books and ephemera is currently on view in the Research Center. These collections enhance our understanding of O’Keeffe’s love of nature and her careful and detailed planning methods. Materials like these were used to help inform garden planning in the O’Keeffe Garden Project.

The Flowers of Japan and the Art of Floral Arrangement

Josiah Conder (1852-1920) was a British architect who lived, taught and worked in Japan. With this text, Conder was among the first to introduce the art of Japanese floral arrangement to a Western audience.

Roses of Yesterday

This catalogue from 1949/50 is full of annotations and pieces of ephemera for garden planning.

Roses of the World in Color

Ten bookmarks, three of which are on display, were found inside this book indicating specific roses with labels handwritten by O’Keeffe.  Also tucked inside the book were clippings.
