Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Names Giustina Renzoni Director of Historic Properties
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–February 14, 2025–(Abiquiú, NM)–The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is pleased to announce Giustina Renzoni has taken on the role of Director of Historic Properties and will lead all aspects of the Museum’s activities in Abiquiú, New Mexico. Previously, Renzoni had served as Curator of Historic Properties. She assumed her new duties after the retirement of Agapita “Pita” Lopez, O’Keeffe’s former companion and mainstay of the Georgia O’Keeffe Foundation and Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, at the end of 2024.
As Director of Historic Properties, Renzoni will work closely with the teams at the Welcome Center and O’Keeffe homes in Abiquiú and at Ghost Ranch, using her 20 years of experience in the art world to continue to lead interpretation of the homes and to develop innovative exhibitions related to the historic properties collections, working closely with related departments in Santa Fe. In taking on this new role, Renzoni also joins the Museum’s leadership team, ensuring that the Abiquiú operations are represented by an advocate at the highest level of the organization.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Giustina’s deep knowledge, experience, and cultural reverence as Director of Historic Properties, following the remarkable legacy of Pita Lopez,” says Museum Director Cody Hartley. “Her dedication to preserving and sharing Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy, paired with her seven years of institutional experience at the Museum, make her the ideal person to lead our efforts in Abiquiú. We are confident that Giustina will honor and expand the incredible foundation built by Pita, bringing fresh vision to our properties.”
Since joining the Museum, Renzoni has made a distinctly positive impact in Abiquiú, expanding and enhancing the experience for our visitors in Rio Arriba County while building strong relationships within the local community.
“For the last seven years, I’ve been able to get to know the place that drew O’Keeffe to New Mexico and the people who surrounded her while she created such a bold and creative life. I’m excited to continue the exceptional work the Museum has created in the Abiquiú area and find new ways to share O’Keeffe’s story with visitors and a new generation of community members,” Renzoni said.
When she first joined the Museum as Historic Site Manager, Renzoni was instrumental in opening the Welcome Center and managing the operations and tour schedule of the Home & Studio. As Curator of Historic Properties, she researched and developed new exhibitions, such as Around the World with O’Keeffe, O’Keeffe in the Landscape, and Artful Living: O’Keeffe & Modern Design. She has also trained tour guides, and led countless tours and talks about Georgia O’Keeffe and her historic homes.
Prior to joining the O’Keeffe Museum, Renzoni held various positions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Denver Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. As a contemporary art curator, Renzoni has organized exhibitions highlighting up-and-coming local artists for galleries in Massachusetts and Colorado. She received an MA in Art History from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her BA in Cultural Anthropology from Northeastern University, Boston.
