In-Person Class: Woodcut Relief Printmaking – Class 2

Join us for a two-session class as we explore the traditional art of woodcut relief printmaking. 

Early in her career Georgia O’Keeffe studied with the painter and printmaker Arthur Wesley Dow. In addition to his work as an artis and educator, Dow was the assistant curator for Japanese art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and his work with the museum’s collection of ukiyo-e woodblock prints heavily influenced his work on composition—including a book entitle Composition which had a tremendous impact on a generation of artists from O’Keeffe to Charles Burchfield and beyond.

In this class participants will begin with an exclusive, short tour of the galleries for inspiration, and will then head to the classroom. Participants will explore composition, line, color, contrast, simplification, variation, and layering through this medium while connecting with the physicality, simplicity, and versatility of natural wood through the process of carving, inking, and printing. 

Each student will complete a series of at least three prints to take home. 

About the Instructor:

Gal Senderowitsch is a Santa-Fe based multimedia artist who draws inspiration from nature, dreams, the human condition, and her South-American and Mediterranean backgrounds. She graduated with her BFA in printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and is currently pursuing her MA in Art Therapy with a certificate in Eco-therapy in Santa Fe, NM. Gal currently teaches printmaking and watercolor classes at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. She has also had the pleasure to run workshops at Fat Crow Press, and instruct fine arts in private and group settings online and in her home studio. Gal is a recipient of various awards from art institutions and groups in Philadelphia, including the Print Center, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Color Print Society. Gal has exhibited her work in various locations around Philadelphia, New York, and Santa Fe.

This class is for adult participants of all skill and experience levels.
