Art & Leadership: How Georgia O’Keeffe’s Legacy Continues to Inspire Santa Fe’s Young Artists

August 20, 2024

Hear from this year’s Art & Leadership Program Leads Anna Samson and Veronica Zavala to learn more about this vibrant program and how Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy continues to inspire the next generation of artists.

Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Art & Leadership Program, founded in 1998, was created to facilitate the development of self-confidence, self-esteem, leadership skills, and self-expression in middle school girls. An all gender-inclusive program since 2021, the Art & Leadership Program now provides diverse, well-rounded, and comprehensive experiences to all participants every summer, focusing on fostering creativity through art-making, theater, music, creative writing, and self-expression.

This talk was recorded as part of our free ‘Mornings With O’Keeffe’ lecture series on the first Wednesday of every month.

About the Speakers:

Anna Samson is a recent graduate of Georgia College & State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Philosophy with a minor in Ceramics. In the summer of 2023, Anna joined the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum as an Art & Leadership Intern and returned this past summer as an Art & Leadership Program Leader. Anna enjoys hiking, playing guitar, making art, and spending time with family in her free time.

Veronica Zavala knew from a very young age that art was something that made her feel complete. She was fortunate to have been granted the opportunity to participate in the Art & Leadership Program during a summer in middle school. Now, she is one of the Program Leads and coordinates the program for the new generation of artists.

The Art & Leadership Program is generously supported by  Diane Buchanan and Rick Andrew and the Andrew Family Foundation, Century Bank, Sheila Fortune Foundation, Don and Cathey Humphreys and the Humphreys Family Foundation, and the Kappa Delta Foundation.
