Contributor Information
Access O’Keeffe explores new ways to engage the public in learning about the art and life of Georgia O’Keeffe, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Working with contributors around the world, the O’Keeffe Museum will provide free access to all known artworks by Georgia O’Keeffe as a user-friendly searchable browser with related images, exhibition histories, archival materials, and other data associated with the artist’s catalogue raisonné.
To provide the most accurate and up-to-date information, the O’Keeffe Museum is reaching out to over 145 public institutions to verify and update catalogue information. Initial information has been sourced from the 1999 Georgia O’Keeffe: Catalogue Raisonné with updates from collection websites.
For each artwork, the current collection is asked to select the following options as verification:
- Correct: This information is correct to the best of the organization’s knowledge.
- Incorrect: This information is not in agreement with current information at the organization. Reviewer is asked to add notes to identify the discrepancies.
- Not documented: This information is not tracked or documented at the organization and therefore cannot be verified. Where this is the case Access O’Keeffe will rely on information published in the 1999 Georgia O’Keeffe: Catalogue Raisonné.
After this initial 2025 verification and review process, a collection is encouraged to send updates at any time regarding catalogue or ownership changes.
The O’Keeffe Museum will reach out annually to check in on changes. Artwork research and ownership is dynamic, but it is expected that much of the records will not change yearly.
Artwork Information
Access O’Keeffe will publish detailed artwork records including basic tombstone summary, catalogue raisonné, extended artwork, conservation, and image information. See the list in the Access O’Keeffe Artwork Fields documentation.
Images
The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum has digital images for many O’Keeffe works as photographed at the time of the 1999 Georgia O’Keeffe: Catalogue Raisonné. These images, which you will see as thumbnails in each verification sheet, have often been scanned from transparencies and do not have the best quality or color accuracy.
Where you have better and more up to date images, we request use of these images for access in Access O’Keeffe. The O’Keeffe Museum will allow limited downloads of images for personal use with the permission of the party providing the image. Learn more about the proposed terms of use for personal image downloads.
Conservation Documentation
Where the information is available, the digital catalogue raisonné will include information from the most recent conservation documentation, namely: Technical Description, Condition Summary, Report Writer/Examiner (could be an individual or attributed to an organization), and date of this report. When newer Technical Descriptions are available, we request that this information be shared and accessible for Access O’Keeffe. See an example of conservation documentation that will be shared.
