Online Class: Beginning Watercolors

Join us as we explore the medium of watercolor and it’s techniques through various compositions inspired by the natural world. While creating, color, negative space, and expression as seen in O’Keeffe’s work will be discussed. Color-mixing, brush, and paper-handling will be practiced.
An image for reference or inspiration will be emailed to all students prior to each class. This image will be used for the demonstration. Students are also welcome to bring their own image to follow along with the techniques shown.
Supplies you will need for this class:
- A watercolor paint set. All types are welcome!
- Instructor will be working mostly with Winsor & Newton colors.
- Watercolor paper. All types are welcome. (Recommended: Arches – cold-pressed or rough)
- A few varied watercolor, acrylic, or ink brushes
- A sharpened pencil (HB or harder works well)
- A white gum eraser
- A few paper-towels
- A container with clean water
- Masking fluid for experimentation (not required)
About the Instructor:
Gal Senderowitsch is a Santa-Fe based multimedia artist who draws inspiration from nature, dreams, the human condition, and her South-American and Mediterranean backgrounds. She graduated with her BFA in printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and is currently pursuing her MA in Art Therapy with a certificate in Eco-therapy in Santa Fe, NM. Gal currently teaches printmaking and watercolor classes at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. She has also had the pleasure to run workshops at Fat Crow Press, and instruct fine arts in private and group settings online and in her home studio. Gal is a recipient of various awards from art institutions and groups in Philadelphia, including the Print Center, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Color Print Society. Gal has exhibited her work in various locations around Philadelphia, New York, and Santa Fe.
This class is suitable for participants ages 14 and up. Children are welcome to participate alongside their adults.
This program takes place via the video conferencing app Zoom. Details for accessing the Zoom meeting will be sent to participants via email prior to the day of the class. Please register in advance in order to access the program.
Not that program times are for US Mountain Time Zone.
This class is being offered on a sliding scale.
$10 minimum fee
$20 covers the cost of the class
$30 covers the cost of the class plus a contribution to support the museum’s educational programs
