Drawing Georgia O’Keeffe’s Personal Objects
We just finished accessioning the new Drawn Archive Project works into the archives – one of my favorite ongoing projects here at the Museum. Sarah Rollins, now a graduate of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD), created several graphite drawings of some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s personal effects over the course of the 2014 fall semester and 2015 spring semester. Rollins is the second student to participate in the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum/SFUAD internship, which gives art students an opportunity to study and document various objects in the Museum collection including O’Keeffe’s art materials and tools, clothing, furnishings and personal property, as well as source materials for her works of art.

Rollins ended up creating four graphite drawings of O’Keeffe’s paint brushes, her hat, and two skulls. Personally, I love seeing the students in the reading room carefully studying the objects and revisiting an early form of collection documentation. It’s a pleasure to watch the beautiful drawings being developed and add them to our archive
