Volunteering

Exciting volunteer opportunities are available at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum including: assisting with education programs, working in the Research Center, interacting with visitors from across the country and around the world at our visitor services desk or in the Museum Shop, helping at the Abiquiu Historic Properties tour office, or in the maintenance of Georgia O’Keeffe’s home and garden in Abiquiu, and much more!

Administration: Assist with special projects such as helping to organize the Volunteer Program. Flexible hours.

Research Center: Assist with special projects; data entry for online catalogue and interlibrary loans, cataloguing collections and registrar records; help with library functions including re-shelving books and sorting information for Ready Reference files; copying and filing. Computer and organizational skills required.

Fundraising: Work on special events. Assist with event and schedule coordination; general clerical and administrative projects. Event planning experience a plus.  Long term commitment preferred. Detail oriented and highly reliable. Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the internet required. Assist with Membership mailings and general clerical and administrative tasks. Organizational skills required. Flexible schedule. Computer proficiency helpful.

Assist with Membership sales in the Museum lobby. Interact with visitors, offer information about the Museum and the community while promoting Museum memberships. Previous sales experience preferred.

Education:  Work with education staff, assisting with office work; copying, answering phones, e-mails; organize mailing lists and files.  Good computer writing skills.  Knowledge of Excel, text translation and editing a plus.

Program Needs; Assist in preparing and participating in educational events, such as monthly family programs, school tours, hands-on art lessons, and professional development for educators.

Docents: Docents conduct tours of Museum exhibitions and help the public to interpret works of art. Through their energy and ideas, docents help to make art accessible, understandable, and rewarding to visitors. By creating a dialogue with visitors about the works of art they are looking at, docents stimulate observation, speculation, possibility, and connection. Docents are asked to volunteer a total of 100 hours per year with 60 of those hours devoted to conducting tours. Marketing and PR: Help with general office duties including copying, data-entry and brochure distribution; compile press kits and press clippings; assist in listing Museum information on websites. Organizational skills needed. Computer proficiency helpful.

Museum Shop: Help to assemble and package note card sets and framed products; roll and wrap posters; general office work; check and verify inventory quantities; stock, price and organize merchandise. Retail experience helpful.

Operations: Teach basic MS Office skills.  Fluency in Microsoft Office Products; Word, Excel and Outlook and Internet Explorer required.  Work one-on-one with staff to teach basic computer skills.  A commitment of 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months preferred.

Teach advanced MS Office skills.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Access and PowerPoint. Able to train in advance areas (mail merge, formulas, etc.) of Word, Excel and Outlook and provide basic-to-advanced instructions in Access and PowerPoint.  A commitment of 6-8 hours working one-on-one with staff.

Visitor Services: Greet and assist visitors to the Museum; provide a friendly and informative visitor environment; promote sales of admission tickets, audio guides, and Museum memberships, as well as Museum lectures, concerts, and other programs and events; share knowledge about Santa Fe's history, culture, and other tourist attractions and amenities. Sales and customer relations experience helpful.
Abiquiu:  Help in the Abiquiu Historic Properties Tour Office; filing; answering the phone; substitute for the Tour Clerk/Cashier during short periods of time; may occasionally be asked to follow the house tour to provide additional support and security for the guests.  

Work in the garden, especially in the summer months; picking fruit when ripe: trimming trees and bushes; assist in removing cut material.  Help with minor carpentry and painting repairs, and other general maintenance and repairs.
