Adult Learning

The Museum offers diverse, life-long learning opportunities throughout the year onsite and in select community locations.  Adult learning programs include lectures, art classes, programs for women, reading discussion groups, creative writing, walking programs, concerts, and exhibition-related special events. Workshops are led by noted arts professionals with assistance from the education department staff. Designed to enhance the interpretation of work in the galleries and to expand awareness of Georgia O’Keeffe and American Modernism, these programs are appreciated by novices and those experienced in the arts.  Participation allows the creative tourist a memorable Santa Fe experience while members of the community can explore a wide range of subjects and activities throughout the year. Many programs are free of charge with materials provided. Specialty programs are limited to small groups to ensure an intimate learning environment. A wide variety of programs are offered throughout the year.

Georgia O'Keeffe and the Camera: The Art of Identity
September 25, 2008 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

LECTURE BY BARBARA BUHLER LYNES
Soon after Georgia O’Keeffe’s professional career began in 1916, Alfred Stieglitz forged a public image of her that defined her in terms of sexuality and as a non-thinking, intuitive force of nature. This lecture will address both the construction of his public image of O’Keeffe as well as what she did to deconstruct it, both through her art and by forging a new public image that defined her as a hard-working individualist, ultimately replacing Stieglitz’s earlier construction.
